Upon the death of her mother, 26 year old Leia York is left bereft and grief-stricken. An old college professor extends her an invitation to join him in one of the most beautiful, yet most dangerous, places on earth – the Amazon rainforest. She embarks on an impulsive journey, hoping to forget the sadness of her life in Chicago.

Shortly after arriving in the village, Leia is among those chosen to go on a quest that is vital to the survival of the natives. The six week quest is fraught with danger, adventure, and unexpectedly: love. A love which is strictly forbidden. Will Leia respect an indigenous law that prevents her from pursuing the only love she has ever known?

The Blue Amaryllis is a unique story that blends romance and adventure, while exploring the very real ecological issues threatening the Amazon rainforest and tribes within. It is a story of a proud people whose unique way of life faces extinction, and the passionate love that develops between one of their own and an outsider.

My Review: Leia decides that going to the rainforest would be good for her, especially right now after losing her mother. Maybe this will help get her mind off things going on in her life. She wasn't sure what to expect about this trip, only that the Amazon rainforest is big and dangerous, but it shouldn't be too bad. Afterall there will be people there to help right?

What she didn't plan on was falling in love. A love, that happens to be forbidden. Leia has learned about medicine and she meets a member of the tribe who deals in similar medicine and well an attraction is created. But these two can't do anything about it really. Tanun can only marry within the tribe and Leia is from Chicago. Two different worlds. Will this love be worth the trouble? Or will it blow up in their face?

The pace is good and I love the new twist with a normal girl and a guy from a tribe and watching them two love and seeing if it will work or just break. I had ups and downs with this book. It took me bit to get into it and then I would be glued and then I would fall back out. So even though I enjoyed the story, I wasn't so hooked that I couldn't put it down. Though as the ending came along, it brought back my attention and kept it.

I give this book 4 stars
