Winning what you want may cost you everything you love...

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

My Review:  I finally got a chance to dive into this book and it was amazing.

Kestrel has plans for her own life. She doesn't want to be in the military and shes not in a rush  to get married either. But she does have a love for music and is very independent. Which both things aren't a good thing in their world. Especially when you have a title, wealth, and your dad is the general. Though, Kestrel is very smart and her plans have helped the general and his men win.

While out with her friend, Kestrel ends up doing something didn't plan on. She buys a slave. She didn't plan on it, and once home, she didn't pay any mind. Until one day when she makes him his escort while out and about. Things seem fine, until he goes out for a moment and he meets up with the person who sold him....well things take a turn you didn't expect. Yet it made the story even more interesting and you can't help but love it.

I can't wait to dive into the rest of the books. This ending in this book, really made me need the next book right that second.
